Dhanush and Aishwarya have left for the sacred city, Benaras today for the shoot of Raanjhnaa. The shoot is expected to last for around 40 days. This film, being directed by Anand Rai, marks the debut of the Kolaveri boy in Bollywood. The couple, both religious, will take this opportunity to visit the temple of Lord Kasi Vishwanath together.

Meanwhile, Dhanush has a lot of projects in hand including Bharath Bala’s Mariyaan, Vetri Maaran’s Vengai Samy and Sargunam’s Sotta Vaazha Kutty. He is also penning the script for Edhir Neechal starring Siva Karthikeyan and Priya Anand.

There’s always a buzz surrounding a Raja album. This time even more so owing to the fact 

that he’s teaming up with Gautham Menon, who is historically known to have great taste in 

music. So its intriguing what he could extract from The Maestro. The promos have been 

very promising. Lets check out how the songs have fared.

1. Saaindhu Saaindhu:

This is a simple melody with delicate instrumentation. A guitar strumming forms the base 

of the tune. It is Instantly likeable. The song’s effectiveness could have been further been 

accentuated had it not been sung by Yuvan. He sounds quirky and unstable at places. 

Ramya NSK has done a great job. 

2. Mudhal Murai:

Daddy’s back! Great orchestration. The string and brass layers are interwoven beautifully. 

They build up some sort of tension and anguish. And when the song reaches a crescendo 

and breaks into choired “Neethane En Ponvasantham” phrase , I felt goosebumps. The first 

interlude is dominated by a violin piece which flows through a tortuous path and segues 

back into the main melody. Sunidhi breathes life into this classic composition. Impressive.

3. Vaanam Mella:

Starts off with harmonized choral vocals. Again, great live orchestration. The interludes 

could form a melody of their own. Raja plays to his strength, i.e orchestration. Typical IR 

number though. Has an old school feel to it. Good but feels slightly outdated.

4. Kaatrai Konjam:

The prelude is awesome with harmonized vocals. The lyrics me reminded me of a 

yesteryear Raja classic “Idhu oru ponmalai pozhudu’. But this is such a pure melody. Karthik

 just glides through this song with consummate ease. The chord progressions are great with

 a mix of jazz elements.

5. Pudikala Mamu:

Romba pudichirukku maamu! Wow.. This is fresh. The song starts off with a guitar solo 

with power chords. The song is so peppy. Peppy, Ilayaraja style. That is, inspite of being 

such a fun song, it does not compromise on the musicality. Special word has to be put in 

for the mixing. Top notch stuff. Starts off as some kind of Tamil rock number then takes the

 folk route. Filled with naughtiness, this one is sure to rule the hearts of teenagers and the 

youth. The tempo, mood-change midway through the song is inventive. Wild and 

Delightful, really. Suraj Jagan and Karthik have scorched this one. Hats off Maestro. My pick.

6. Ennodu Vava:

First when the promos came out, I was not impressed with 

this one. The tune had an 80-ish feel . Now after listening 

to the full song, I’m very impressed but this still is a typical 

80′s melody. Karthik’s mellow vocals sound great. Orchestration meets synth in this grand 

new-age Raja melody which still retains that old earthiness. Beautiful melody.

7. Pengal Endral:

A song with a lot of angst. The tune itself is kind of haunting and oozes tension and anger. 

The drums and guitars keep pounding with a furious energy indicating the underlying 

 mood of the song. But it doesnt work for me.

8. Sattru Munbu:

Haunting. Beautiful composition and very beautifully rendered. The symphonic interlude 

pieces are just magic. Extensively layered with string and brass, and so intricately arranged, 

that it reflects the genius of the man. As one string layer after another unfurls, we are just

 left dumstruck. Takes a genius to concieve a song like this. This is heaviest song in the 

album. An orchestral feast.

Album Verdict: A great musical from Raja after a long time. All hail the Maestro.

asins new endeavour

Asin is generally known to dub in her own voice in all the movies that she acts in - be it Tamil, Telugu or Hindi. In one of her upcoming Bollywood movies, she is playing the role of a Marathi girl and in keeping with her policy, she would be dubbing in her own voice for this role too. 

She has hired a Marathi tutor to help her perfect the language and the crew of this film is surprised by her willingness to learn and dedication to deliver.

She recently had a blockbuster in Bol Bachchan and her next film is with her Housefull 2 co-star Akshay Kumar. In this film titled Khiladi 786, her character's name is Kajal Tendulkar. She is supposedly learning Marathi for this role.

Mugamoodi sequel in 3d

Dhananjayan Govind, the producer of Mugamoodi has a lot of faith in the film and is going all out to promote it. He was full of praise for Jiiva, Narain, Mysskin, Pooja, music director K and, Dhananjayan is content to leave the fate of the film to the audience.

He is confident that the film will be well received and is planning a sequel to the film to be made on a much larger scale and probably in 3D format. The producer has been using microblogging and social networking sites to publicize his film Nasser. He has said that the film will do wonders for all their careers and get them a good name. With the film releasing on Friday and via this medium he has asked his followers to give their opinions after seeing the film so that he can take his plans for a sequel further.

Venkat prabhu updates about biryani

Venkat Prabhu has shared some interesting updates about his upcoming film with Karthi, titled Biriyani. Vaali and Gangai Amaran have been entrusted the task of writing the lyrics for all the songs, like in Venkat's earlier films. Vaali would write the first song while the rest of the songs would be shared with Gangai Amaran too. 

Yuvan has already composed two songs and is working on the third. The shooting will begin in September once Karthi is done with Alex Pandian. Venkat also said that the entire cast would be announced by the end of this month after being finalized. 

Furthermore, Prasanna would be playing a role in Biriyani while a decision on his wife, Sneha, being a part of this movie is yet to be taken. More interesting updates are expected in the coming weeks from the Mankatha director.

Vijay Antony’s Naan directed by Jeeva Shankar has been received well and the hero is also getting more offers from many aspiring directors. Of the numerous scripts he had received, Vijay Antony has zeroed in on Thirudan. The crew details will be disclosed very soon.

Siddharth thrilled with Vetri Maaran film

Siddharth has just completed a grueling two-week schedule for his film Desiya Nedunjaalai which is being produced by Vetri Maaran and Dhayanidhi Azhagiri. Manikandan is the director. The actor/producer was full of praise for the cast and crew who according to him are very committed and made the entire experience unforgettable for him.

Velraj is handling the cinematography department and GV Prakash is doing the music. Newcomer, Arshita is the heroine. Vetri Maaran is focusing on this film as well as Naan Rajavaaga Pogiren starring Nakul as he has penned the script for the latter.

Shriya Saran recently made a lot of heads turn with her raunchy photoshoot for men's magazine, Maxim. This is her second photoshoot for this popular magazine. Her critics claimed that Shriya was doing such glamorous photoshoots to gain some attention from film circles. But she coolly brushes away such claims by saying that she did this photoshoot for fun.

She knew the photographer very well and asserts that her photoshoot was done aesthetically and in good taste. On the filmy front, she is pinning her hopes on Chandra, for which she has learnt Kalari and these stills have also been doing the rounds prominently in the net.

I dont mind people watching Mugamoodi in pirated DVDs- Mysskin

Mysskin’s super hero film is all set to release on Friday the 31^st. In a pre-release press meet of the film, director Mysskin expressed how he is looking at the overall product. He compared Mugamoodi to old MGR films, where MGR even after getting thrashed severely by the villain, rises again and defeats the evil. “Still it doesn’t look bad at all. That is exactly how I have made this film. In Mugamoodi, Jiiva plays people’s savior,” Mysskin opened up.

“I don’t mind people watching this film on pirated DVDs. It is just that it will not look good and you will finally end up watching the film in theaters. So, I would recommend you to save that 50 bucks you spend on DVDs and watch it in theaters,” said the director.

Comedian Vivek is set to play the lead role again after his previous attempt at donning the main role in the movie Magane En Marumagane. This new movie would be titled Paalakaatu Madhavan. The interesting thing would be his co-star in this movie.

It would be Sonia Agarwal who is looking to make a strong comeback in her second innings. Her comeback movie Oru Nadigaiyin Vaakku Moolam did not exactly set the cash registers ringing. 

ABC Dream Entertainers would be producing this Vivek-Sonia starrer.

Vishwaroobam to clash with maatraan

Last week cinecastle had reported that Kamal Haasan’s magnum opus Vishwaroopam will hit the screens in October. Now we hear that the film will release on October 12^th. Incidentally, KV Anand’s Maatrraan is also expected to hit the screens on the very same day.

Kamal Haasan plays a Kathak exponent and a secret agent in Vishwaroopam. Pooja Kumar and Andrea Jeremiah play the female leads and Rahul Bose, Jaideep Ahlawat, Samrat Chakrabarti, Nassar and many others play character roles. A major portion of the film was shot in Chennai and New York and the post production is being carried out in Los Angeles.

Santhanam is among the busiest stars in tinsel town and producers would go to any extent to have him in their movies. Such is the pull that he has on the audiences. He is a part of so many projects that sometimes, his schedules get mixed up.

Recently, Shankar had planned to shoot some scenes with Santhanam on a particular day's schedule of I. But, Santhanam could not make it to the shoots of I as he was occupied with some other movie. He revealed the same to Shankar who understood his plight and decided to cancel that day's shoot.

There is an interesting pattern regarding the release of big films in the coming months. Thaandavam has been announced as a September 28 release by UTV Motion Pictures. English Vinglish has been slated for October 5 and Maattrraan has been confirmed recently as an October 12 release. 

So film buffs will get to experience Vikram, Ajith and Suriya back to back in subsequent weeks and that would be quite a feast for movie buffs. It must be noted that Ajith is playing just a cameo role in English Vinglish but his fans are very excited by his 'salt and pepper' look. Vikram and Suriya on the other hand have promised a different action treat with their respective films. 

Should be a good time for film buffs indeed.

Mugamoodi's big century

Mugamoodi, featuring Jiiva, Narain and Pooja Hegde and directed by Mysskin is the 100th film to release in 2012, according to its producer, Dhananjayan Govind. The makers are very excited about this and are considering it an auspicious sign! They are also hoping that the film crosses a similar milestone at the box office. 

The music has been released and has come in for a lot of praise especially the Vayamoodi Summa Iruda track. The film is all set to be released this Friday, August 31. Good luck to the 100th film to release this year.

Straightaway the energy levels are set with the rock and roll jazzy style of the song. The song has more than a slight resemblance to Sillunu Oru Kaadhal’s title song. This is an experimental genre of song that is not generally tried in Tamil cinema. The instrumentals are typical of other songs in the ‘Blues’ genre and a pat to all the energetic singers.

This song is reminiscent of rock songs with inspirational lyrics. The instrumentals are typically heavy with the guitar being very prominent. The vocals and instrumentals also have a slight classical touch at places giving the song a nice fusion touch. An innovative cocktail, this number is. 

Sakkarakatti…
Yazin Nazar, Pooja
The piano instrumentals at the start set the mood for the song. It turns out to be a decent melody with the vocals falling a bit short. We expected more after the beautiful opening instrumentals.

A remix of the earlier duet which has the general techno elements associated with other remixes. It is foot tapping and serves the purpose expected of a remix.

This song doesn’t make much of an impact with just the chorus bits adding some mischief and fun elements to it. The lyrics of this passable number give friendship some brownie points. 

I Love You…

Such mushy songs are generally a part of candy floss Hindi rom-coms. This one is short and entirely in English. A feel-good one.

king:The songs are perfect for a movie in the romance genre. The focus has been on feel-good songs and Phani Kalyan is another promising newbie on the block. Worth a shot for the energetic title number, the innovative Uyir Thozha and the lilting Kaadhalae …

anushka cries,alex pandiyan shooting in trouble

cinecastle has earlier reported that Anushka has returned to Chennai and the shooting for Alex Pandian with Karthi has resumed. However, as per industry reports, the shooting of the film got into trouble today.

Anushka has engaged a personal makeup woman and has brought her to the shooting spot of Alex Pandian. However, according to reports, about 30 members of the makeup union from here, barged into the shooting spot and demanded that the personal makeup woman be sent away. Apparently they were agitated that Anushka’s makeup person is not a member of the union. Also according to people present at the spot, they abused Anushka verbally. Anushka was shocked at the treatment meted out to her and cried and went running away from the scene.  

However, actor Karthi intervened and spoke to the union members. The shooting resumed only after the makeup woman was sent out from the place.

Another journo in ajith vishnuvardhan's project

Vishnuvardhan’s untitled venture’s shoot is happening at a fiery pace. And Ajith has already started making the city go abuzz with his new looks. Though there were rumours that Ajith is playing the role of a hacker, the makers have denied such reports.

Now the news is that Taapsee is playing the role of a journalist in this much awaited film. Suman Ranganathan, who is making her comeback in Tamil after a long gap, is also reported to be playing the role of a nosy journo.  

Nayanthara, Arya, Atul Kulkarni, Rana Daggubatti and Mahesh Manjrekar are also playing pivotal roles in the film. Nayanthara is also assisting Vishnuvardhan in the direction department and so is Keerthana Parthipan. Yuvan Shankar Raja is composing music for the film and PS Vinod is behind the lens. The film can be expected to hit the screens by the end of this year.

Maatraan release date confirmed

Putting an end to fake propaganda, the Maattrraan team has announced the date of release of the film. The film, Maattrraan, will hit the screens on Oct 12. The film stars Suriya in double role as conjoined twins and is being directed by KV Anand. Kajal Aggarwal is the heroine.

The film’s trailer and audio were released recently. Harris Jayaraj has composed the music and there five songs in the film. The satellite right of the film is with Jaya TV.

Alex Pandian's unique distinction

Generally Tamil movies are released in its original version in states like Karnataka and Kerala, while in neighboring Andhra Pradesh, Tamil movies are dubbed. All biggies generally follow this trend.

Karthi's Alex Pandian would go for a Malayalam dubbed version and stand out from the crowd. This would be Karthi's first Malayalam dub as all his movies have been released in Kerala as straight Tamil features till now. 

Anushka is his co-star in this movie and the film is fast nearing completion as it targets an October 12 release.

The songs of Mugamoodi are already creating waves in the FM space and in the Internet thanks to some good work by composer K. Now, before the release of the movie itself, fans can catch up with the visuals of these songs too, on TV and the Internet. 

UTV has been aggressively marketing Mugamoodi and this is another move in reaching the movie to the audience. Given the success of songs like Vaayamoodi Summa Iruda, fans would be really excited to see the visuals, that too on their TV sets before the 31st itself.
